5 Questions to ask yourself when hiring a general contractor.
Does the contractor have experience?
When you begin the process of any type of construction project the first thing you want to ask is: What kind of experience does the company have, and is it right for me and my needs? Is the company licensed and insured?
What is the communication process with your contractor?
This one is the most important questions. How is information relayed? Is there communication between you, and the contractor? Does everyone know and understand the time frame for the work that will be done?
What types of resources are available to you?
When a project starts, it is essential to not only have the right materials ready, but the team needs to be ready too! Does the project require a subcontractor or project managers?
Does the general contractor have a portfolio of the type of work that they do? Do they have before and after pictures of the construction projects? Are there photos of the bathroom, the kitchen, the basement and dormer projects?
Make sure you have a detailed contract with all the work specifications that you require. It is important for the contract to go into details of the time frame of the project is and all the project terms. Once a contract is agreed upon, there are no surprises. It is critical to have the contract signed by all parties, therefore there is no miscommunication on what needs to be done.
